Don't be Blinded

2 Corinthians 4:4

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

I have never seen a time where people, saved and lost alike, are so deceived. In times gone by, even the lost had a respect for the things of God, including the church and people who were Christians. I don’t see that anymore. Instead, I see a lot of ridicule. How blinded these people are. Not only are they not accepting Christ, realizing that a heart relationship with Him is the Only Way, but they don’t even have enough head knowledge of God to be respectful to Him and the things of Him anymore.

It isn’t just the lost who are deceived. The saved haven’t been blinded to the point of not accepting Christ, but they are so filled with the world that they often compromise the Word. Divorce, adultery, abortion, social drinking…. You really can’t tell the difference between the saved and the lost anymore. But then, sometimes, you can hardly tell you’ve been to church anymore either. I am not opposed to modern approaches as long as the Gospel isn’t being compromised. That’s the problem, the gospel is being compromised and not just in “modern” churches. What will draw people to the church is Christ, not a program. If your church isn’t growing, if your ministry isn’t growing, the first question is not what you can do to attract people. The first question is how you can let the Truth shine through you. That is what will attract others. If you are concerned about people being blinded to the Truth, and you should be, pray. And then make sure you aren’t compromising the Truth so it can shine through you!
